Recently, I indulged in a variety of colored lip balms from different brands, wanting to explore beyond my usual choices. I have high standards when it comes to lip balms. While testing out the Lisa Eldridge Velvets on a recent occasion, I found that regular application and removal depleted the moisture from my lips, despite their matte formula. As a result, I’ve been rotating between Tatcha, Chanel, and Biossance to keep my lips moisturized. That’s when I stumbled upon this set from Benefit, featuring three mini balms in one package. For testing purposes, mini sizes are more than enough.

One aspect that caught my attention was the packaging, which in my opinion, is a nod to Benefit’s classic style – I absolutely love it. These mini balms are versions of the full-size California Kissin’ color balms and come in shades Spiced Red, Ruby, and Berry.

Shown in the same order as in the swatch, the texture of the balms is reminiscent of moisturizing lipstick rather than a typical balm. I found them to be too pigmented for my preference. If I had wanted a moisturizing lipstick, I would have chosen that. I was expecting a more sheer finish from a balm. Although the balms have a juicy appearance, they don’t provide a glossy finish as such. It’s becoming clear to me that the term ‘balm’ covers a wide spectrum. However, if you appreciate more pigmentation in your lip balm, this could be a great option – it’s available at Escentual for £16.55 instead of £19.50.
