[This is an unpaid/sample review] SPF products for the face have become increasingly popular, especially during the summer. When it comes to SPF information and recommendations, I believe that brands are doing a great job at informing us about the importance of using SPF daily. However, there seems to be some confusion surrounding the effectiveness of SPF-infused foundations. Research suggests that to achieve the specified level of sun protection, one needs to apply half a teaspoon of foundation, which is quite a lot. It feels like beauty brands are capitalizing on our concerns, and while it is important to use SPF, the full story and its application, especially indoors, may not be entirely clear. Some advocate for year-round use, but there’s a lack of comprehensive studies supporting this.
The Saltee City Serum SPF50 is a reliable product for the face, hands, and neck. It’s a serum with a consistency that’s not exactly like a gel, a bit thicker than some alternatives, but it’s worth the slight extra effort. What makes Saltee stand out is its inclusion of skin-friendly ingredients, reducing the need for an additional moisturizer. The black ginger extract helps combat harmful effects of the sun, Nordic pine bark works on pigmentation, and there’s panthenol for hydration, along with glycerin. Also, it contains a ferment that’s beneficial for addressing sun damage. Overall, it stands out for being extremely effective in protecting against premature aging due to sun exposure.
Personally, I find the City Serum ideal for makeup-free days, especially when there’s more sun exposure than usual. It may not be the best for layering with foundation, but it’s perfectly doable. Just allow a minute or two for it to settle before adding your base, and make sure to apply a generous amount. It’s important to note that it contains fragrance and is priced at £38.
