[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’m always on the lookout for hair care products that promote “glossing”. I had to do some research on Chris McMillan; although he is more well-known in the US as a celebrity stylist, creating ‘The Rachel’ gives a clear reference point. Collaborating with an expert like Chris McMillan was a smart move by Drunk Elephant. Instead of merely adding hair care to their range, they sought an authority to ensure quality and effectiveness.

When it comes to the shampoo, the first thing that struck me was its almond scent. If you’re not a fan of Bakewell tart, this scent might not be for you. Personally, I loved it, but I’m aware that almond scents can be divisive. This shampoo is quite rich – more suitable for normal to dry hair – and you don’t need to use a lot of it. Initially, I made the mistake of factoring in hard London water, only to realize that I needed more rinsing than usual.

The conditioner shares the same almondy scent. It’s relatively lightweight, but I used less of it after the initial shampoo overdose, and my hair still felt lightly and smoothly conditioned. The glossing effect is attributed to the additional amino acids. I can confidently say that my hair looks shiny. While it’s not an over-the-top halo effect, it fulfills the glossing claim. Even after two days, my hair still feels light and free, showing no signs of needing another wash. This formula contains various oils, from argan and blackcurrant to passiflora and camellia. Given that you only need a small amount at a time (and only one application, not two), the price of £21 each seems reasonable for what feels like a luxurious shampoo and conditioner.

My only gripe with this product is the incredibly sticky label that secures the lid – it’s extremely difficult to remove. Even with tweezers, it came off in about six sticky pieces. I’m fairly confident that this issue will be addressed in due course. I noticed that SpaceNK offers free delivery over £20, and either of these products will fit into that category. If you’re deliberating between the two, I’d recommend opting for the shampoo.
