Here’s a fascinating find – the Christophe Robin Colour Shield Cleansing Mask; it’s a blend of a shampoo and mask in one. In my initial experience, I made the mistake of using too much, making rinsing a prolonged task. I always struggle with products that don’t rinse easily, and this was no exception, bringing some consciousness about water usage.

The scent is reminiscent of fresh, floral clean laundry. Due to its thickness, I presumed more meant better, which turned out to be incorrect. It doesn’t foam upon application, and you can leave it on for 5 to 20 minutes, although 5 minutes suffices unless you have very dry hair. After that time, add water sparingly to create a light foam before fully rinsing it out. Assuming you haven’t overused the product, this should be straightforward. However, you’ll need fairly hot water to remove the oils in the formula – camu camu, sunflower, macadamia.
The result? Hair that feels thoroughly clean without the need to condition afterward, maintaining color vibrancy and leaving a lovely shine. Achieving these results took a more cautious second use as the initial application was a bit heavy-handed. The aim of this mask/shampoo is to provide a deep clean without stripping color, and in that aspect, it performed well. It would be beneficial to include clearer usage instructions to avoid the hassle of a rewash. Nonetheless, the shine almost made up for it. Christophe Robin Colour Shield Cleansing Mask retails at £37 for the large pot. Not necessary if your hair is oily or not colored.
