Let’s talk about the Aveda Scalp Solutions Overnight Renewal Serum. It claims to fight ‘premature scalp ageing’, but in reality, it’s a potent scalp soother. Personally, my scalp has been quite problematic – I’ve had extensive flaking, almost like scabs. In an attempt to remedy this, I’ve been using various products. I suspect it’s linked to increased hair shedding, which I believe is a side effect of Covid.

First Impressions: The Aveda Scalp Solutions Overnight Renewal Serum feels refreshing upon application. It’s easy to use – just apply a few drops across the scalp. It doesn’t leave any residue and works its magic overnight. The term ‘scalp ageing’ can easily be interpreted as scalp dryness, whether due to sensitivity or lack of suppleness. I’m less skeptical about microbiomes concerning scalps – something in my scalp’s ecosystem is clearly disturbed, and I welcome the healthy bacteria this serum provides. Ectoin, a powerful hydrator, and hyaluronic acid are key components of this serum. Additionally, the immediate cooling sensation is derived from ginger root, offering a bit of a spicy tingle. Notably, soothing properties come from Tiger Grass, which features prominently in the top five ingredients.

Rapid Results: I was impressed by how quickly this serum delivered a moisture boost to my scalp. The fragrance is pleasant – a blend of citrus and lavender. The only downside is the price – £42. However, considering the significant improvement in scalp hydration after just one use (51%), it seems worth the investment. The more you use it, the better the results. While it’s slightly cheaper at Sephora, ordering from the Aveda site, where shipping is free for orders over £40 and includes two free samples, seems to be the better option. Also worth considering is their exfoliating treatment, starting from £12, and the accompanying scalp brush, priced at £27, designed for stimulation, massage, and exfoliation. I personally love the brush, but I’m using it very gently, ensuring it provides a soothing sensation without being abrasive.
