[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Here we are with part two of the Jo Malone London The Highlands Collection. A few days ago, I reviewed Mallow on the Moor and Highland Heather [HERE], and now it’s time for Melancholy Thistle and Wild Achillea.
Creating a fragrance from Thistle is quite a challenge. In my opinion, it’s the least appealing of the four scents. However, it improves on the dry down, leaning more towards herbal than floral. The predominant scent I detect is ivy, which personally, I’d rather not smell like. I’ve spent countless hours in the garden fighting against it, deciding cautiously where to allow it to grow (for the insects that love it), although it constantly tries to overtake.
It evokes a post-rain ambiance where natural scents seem to amplify. If you’ve ever sought shelter under a leafy tree during rain, you’d understand – that damp scent of wood, earth, and greenery. It has a sweet undertone, finishing with Coolwood, known for its mineral elements. Still not my top choice, but I imagine it captures the essence of Outlander.
Wild Achillea brings a pleasant surprise. It was previously featured in Jo Malone London’s Nettle & Wild Achillea cologne in 2019. Achillea has a naturally spicy green aroma that benefits from the softening touch of orange blossom, creating a delightful fragrance. Waterlily follows with aquatic and green notes (although I haven’t experienced its scent personally) providing a hint of freshness. The composition concludes with white musk, imparting a soft and powdery essence. Overall, I detect the luscious orange blossom which I appreciate – it’s fruity and creamy, a real delight and my favorite. Each of the four colognes is priced at £58 [HERE], or you can purchase the full set for £232 [HERE]. This collection stands out as one of the most intriguing limited editions.
