[This review is based on personal experience and contains affiliate links.] When it comes to ultra-thin SPFs, it’s normal to feel apprehensive. I recall a Which report that highlighted issues with some SPFs not meeting their stated SPF levels. Despite this, ultra-thin SPFs are more convenient and friendlier to the face than most alternatives. In the case of Airthin, I don’t have reasons to worry, but it’s important to remember to use it generously. In my opinion, it’s not ideal for the beach but more suitable as a daily incidental sun protection product. The brand suggests using 7 drops per application.

The key feature of Airthin is its extraordinary fluidity. In fact, it claims to be 8 times thinner than a classic base. Airthin is categorically a skincare product with SPF. Its testing was conducted in Asia on Asian skin tones, adding credibility to the product, given the region’s meticulous approach to SPF products. However, seeing a claim that the skin feels ‘light’ after two weeks seems a bit unusual. Personally, what stands out most about this formula is that it doesn’t make my skin feel suffocated. I tested it on a hot and slightly muggy day in London, and my skin didn’t feel sticky or overloaded, which is often the case with many SPFs. The most significant claim is that it allows the skin to breathe, and I found that to be true. Think of the most humid days we experience and then envision it being three times worse for those in Asia.

As you can see from the picture, the fluid is quite runny – not entirely like milk, but very close. It does have a fragrance, somewhat floral and beachy, and contains key ingredients such as citrus peel for anti-pollution and niacinamide. Airthin worked well with my other products, including tinted moisturizer. It’s perfect if your skin struggles in the city heat during summer and you need lightweight products. However, if your skin dislikes fragrance, this might not be the best choice for you. You can find it for £32.50 (instead of the RRP £38) at [Link to the purchase].
